Masters Selection and Draw Policies

GENERAL
The term Masters by definition is an Elite Singles event for those players who by current playing record, primarily in singles but not excluding other disciplines, are considered the best singles players in the district. Selection is the responsibility of the respective Men’s and Women’s Selection Committees which shall be submitted to the Executive for ratification.

MEN’S QUALIFYING MASTERS
1 “Qualifying Masters” being defined as those players who have the potential for being selected for the respective Open or Veteran Masters events.
1.1 Previous District representation does not preclude players for consideration for selection to participate in this event.

2 The Men’s Selection Committee shall invite TWENTY FOUR Open and TWENTY FOUR Veteran participants to play in a qualifying event to be held prior to the Open and Veteran Masters.
2.1 The winner of the mixed gender Junior Masters shall automatically qualify for their respective gender event.

3 Should any selected player notify the Convener of Selectors that they are not available to play, the selectors shall nominate a replacement.

4 Should a selected player arrive at the event venue on the due date and through some circumstance does not commence the first game of the event, the Selectors shall at their sole discretion nominate a reserve and the replaced player shall become the reserve.

5. The Executive shall conduct a draw of FOUR sections of SIX players per section.
5.1 The draw will be open i.e. no seeding of the draw.

WOMEN’S QUALIFYING MASTERS
1 “Qualifying Masters” being defined as those players who have the potential for being selected for the respective Open or Veteran Masters events.

2 The Women’s Selection Committee shall invite twelve Open and twelve Veteran participants to play in a qualifying event to be held prior to the Open and Veteran Masters.
2.1 The winner of the mixed gender Junior Masters shall automatically qualify for their respective gender event.

3 Should any selected player notify the Convener of Selectors that they are not available to play, the selectors shall nominate a replacement.

4 Should a selected player arrive at the event venue on the due date and through some circumstance does not commence the first game of the event, the Selectors shall at their sole discretion nominate a reserve and the replaced player shall become the reserve.

5 The Executive shall conduct a draw consisting of two sections of six players per section.
5.1 The draw will be open i.e. no seeding of the draw.

MEN’S OPEN AND VETERAN MASTERS
1. “Open Masters” being defined as those players considered to be the best players in the District irrespective of age.

2 “Veteran Masters” being defined as those players sixty years of age or over at the commencement of the event excluding those that may have been selected for the Open Masters.

3 The SIXTEEN players for each of these respective events shall be made up of:
3.1 FOUR players selected by the Men’s Selection Standing Committees.
3.2 The respective winner, runner-up and bronze position of the previous year’s event.
3.3 The section winners and runners up of that year’s qualifying event.

4 Should any selected player notify the Convener of Selectors that they are not available to play; the selectors shall nominate a replacement from their respective Qualifying Masters.

5 Should a selected player arrive at the event venue on the due date and through some circumstance does not commence the first game of the event, the Selectors shall at their sole discretion nominate a reserve and the replaced player shall become the reserve.

6 The Executive shall conduct a draw for each gender consisting of two sections of EIGHT players per section.
6.1 The previous year’s Winner and Runner-up shall be placed into different sections
6.2 The draw shall be conducted in the presence of the players and respective Selection Committees.

WOMEN’S OPEN MASTERS
1 “Open Masters” being defined as those players considered to be the TWELVE best players in the District irrespective of age.

2 The TWELVE players for each of these respective events shall be made up of:
2.1 SIX players selected by the Women’s Selection Standing Committees.
2.2 The respective winner and runner-up of the previous year’s event.
2.3 The section winner and runner up of that year’s qualifying event.

3 Should any selected player notify the Convener of Selectors that they are not available to play; the selectors shall nominate a replacement from their Qualifying Masters.

4 Should a selected player arrive at the event venue on the due date and through some circumstance does not commence the first game of the event, the Selectors shall at their sole discretion nominate a reserve and the replaced player shall become the reserve.

5 The Executive shall conduct a draw for each gender consisting of two sections of six players per section.

2.1 FOUR players selected by the Women’s Selection Standing Committees.
2.2 The respective winner and runner-up of the previous year’s event.
2.3 The section Winners, Runners up and 3rd place of that year’s qualifying event.

JUNIOR MASTERS
1 “Junior Masters” being defined as players under the age of 30 at the commencement of the event and have not been selected for a Bowls SA squad or are due to play or have played in the Bowls SA Junior Masters.

2 The winner of the event, having qualified to play in the Qualifying Masters is not precluded for selection in future Junior Masters events.

3 The combined Men’s and Women’s Selection Committees shall invite twelve participants of either gender to play in the Junior Masters.

4 Should any selected player notify the respective Convener of Selectors that they are not available to play; the selectors shall nominate a replacement.
