Men’s and Women’s Open, Veterans, and Under 25 Singles Conditions of Play

All games shall be played in accordance with the current Laws of the Sport of Bowls, the Bowls SA Domestic Regulations, the PNB Standard Competition By-Laws and the following Conditions of Play.

ENTRIES
The names of all the players, who shall be first call bona fide members of PNB shall be submitted with the entry.
The Open Singles event may be entered by players of any age.
The Veteran Singles may be entered by player on or over the age of sixty at the date of the first round of play.
The Under 25 Singles may be entered by any player BORN ON OR AFTER 1ST JANUARY 2000.

DECLARATION FORMS
Immediately prior to playing its first match, each player shall complete and sign the PNB declaration form setting out their names and Bowls SA registration number.

FORMAT OF PLAY
1.1 The Singles Championships is to be played with four bowls per player with the winner being the first player to score 21 shots.
1.2 Play shall be on a league system in sections of three players per section or see below (other format of play).
1.3 The first round shall be between the players one and two in the section with player three marking.
The second round between player three and the loser of the first round with the winner of the first round marking. The third round shall be between player three and the winner of the first round
1.4 Sections must play on the same green and in the same direction for all rounds of sectional play.
1.5 All games of sectional play are to be completed, as net shots could decide section winners.

POINTS ALLOCATION AND SECTION WINNERS
1 Points for winning the game.
The section winner shall be the player with the most points, and if a tie, the following sequential criteria will be used until a winner is determined. Net shots shot percentage (i.e. shots for divided by shorts against), the winner of the game between the two players during section play.
In the event that all three players have identical shots for and against, all three shall play a one bowl tiebreaker to determine the winner. The mat and jack are to be placed at the respective 2 metre marks and the order of play shall be as per the section draw. The distance between bowl and jack of the first player shall be set on a measure, the bowl removed and the jack re-set, if necessary. Player 2 and then 3 shall deliver their respective bowl and the section winner shall be the player with the shortest distance between jack and bowl. Should there still be a tie, the players in contention shall repeat the process until a decision is reached.

WITHDRAWAL DURING THE EVENT
A team or player withdrawing from the Championships at any time after commencement, with or without the consent of the Controlling Body shall cause all points in sectional play to be expunged. During knockout play a walkover shall be awarded to the opponent. If withdrawal is without the consent from the Controlling Body then suitable disciplinary action may be taken by Port Natal Bowls.

PLAY-OFFS
The play-offs of section winners shall be on a knockout basis, according to a pre-determined draw.
Direction of play during the knockout stages shall be at the discretion of the host club.

OTHER FORMAT OF PLAY
Should entry numbers dictate, the competition may be played on a knockout basis.

TOSSING FOR OPENING PLAY
Players should toss with a coin to determine who shall play first.

TRIAL ENDS
One trial end in each direction may be played at the commencement of each game.

RESTRICTING THE MOVEMENT OF PLAYERS DURING PLAY
Players may visit the head after the delivery of their third bowl. They may visit the head earlier, with permission from their opponent and the Marker.

DEAD ENDS & JACK
Dead ends or a jack being declared dead, the end is to be replayed

SMOKING, ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND CONSUPTION OF ALCOHOL
Smoking (including artificial devises or e-cigarettes such as Twisp), Cell Phones and Handheld TV devices will not be permitted within 2 metres of the green while play is in progress. Players should refrain from the consumption of alcohol during play. These rulings apply to all events under the control of Port Natal Bowls. The warning process and penalties are described in clause 2.14 in the General Competition By-laws.

GENERAL
If anything should arise that is not specifically covered in these Conditions of Play, then the latest edition of Laws of the Laws of the Sport of Bowls will apply.
